Borrett, Terry
Ops 18/2/14: Terry's daughter Tracey sent us this sad update.
Sadly dad passed away in March 2009, (liver problems). He had a wonderful time before he became poorly, mum and dad spent many happy times in their gorgeous garden which was pristine, along with keeping the ‘Coy Pond gardens’ neat and tidy. This area is a beautiful large pond at the end of the Bournemouth gardens, moments from their home. Dad also kept himself busy with helping the neighbours with odd jobs and keeping my son, my brother and myself happy. Sadly we lost mum (Barbara) to a broken heart the following June. I remember the Christmas Children’s parties and them being so much fun. I so wish that he was with us now as he would have enjoyed keeping up to date with everyone. Mum and Dad are both resting now at Cherry Lane Cemetery in Hayes.

After a few years of that I took the plunge and realised a long term ambition to become a Teacher. So now I'm teaching Design and Technology in a secondary school, earning very little and working very hard. Sometimes it's rewarding, and there are 3 good reasons to be a teacher... christmas, easter and summer!! Too busy (and now too old) to do any gainful employment.
Our son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons (age 9 and 5) came over from Australia in the summer when my daughter got married, after "living in sin" (what a dreadful phrase) for twelve years - their five-year-old daughter was bridesmaid.

Shirley writes...We have moved to The Hague, Netherlands. Have just moved in and am sitting amid boxes, but have managed to get an internet connection so am feeling quite proud of myself – my dutch is non existent and bureaucracy runs rife here so nothing is easy!! The reason for the move is that Bruce has changed jobs and is now working for Shell, part of the Six Sigma implementation team. It’s an adventure and very different, but I’m sure we will both enjoy living in Holland once we have settled in. The dutch are very friendly (if not very customer focused!) and The Hague is a lovely, green, small city. For my part, I am to become a part time lady of leisure. I will still be working on the odd occasion for OMT in the UK, they have asked me to go back to carry out Six Sigma training there for them. Apart from that I have nothing planned as yet, but am sure I will be kept busy helping Bruce.

Hello Sol-Tenco folk. Maisie and I had an invite to Pat Gilmour's 60th surprise party. We were away at the time so we made a DVD to be played on the day wishing Pat well etc; I said Pat was a youngster at 60!! I celebrated my 80th last week!!! Still able to get out and about and still fully involved with my amateur film making hobby. Maisie and I support the film competitions and over the past few years now go over to Guernsey for the Guernsey Lily Amateur Film Festival. I entered two short films and to my surprise received two commended certificates. I felt OLD the other day when my grandaughter drove up in her car!! My other grnandaughter has just passed her test and my first grandson,20, is on to his third car. THIRD CAR?? Do not ask!! I have five lovely grandchildren.
I still hold village film shows and raised £1,200 for charity at the last one in April . Maisie and I are still able to keep the Scout Mini Bus on the road. Maisie bought a second hand one a few years ago and it has done sterling service and has brought a great deal of pleasure to many people. It is used by Scouts and others all year round. This is a VERY practical way of contributing to charity as you actually see every penny used. No admin charges.
I am a Vice President,an honorary title, of the Charing History Society and a part of the photographic group. We are planning another public show of photos. After our last successful show we published a Pictorial History of Charing and had pr-orders for over five hundred copies of our 1,000 print run. Maisie and I have today returned from a weeks break in Somerset. As members of the National Trust we get to visit some lovely places. I record the social history of Charing on film and after 35 years I do have some archieve material. Getting old?? No I am too busy. I enjoyed every day I was with the Sol-Tenco gang.
Regards to all who may take the trouble to read my ramblings. Harry Trill

11/2/10: I was IR Manager, then Personnel Manager for Sol Cafe in the late 70’s.  I came to Greenford from Group Personnel Service at Cadby Hall.  I well remember a few names on the list such as Max Foran, Tony Blackburn and my successor Andrew Brown.   I left the UK in 1979 and returned to Australia where I worked for BP in HR for many years.   In recent years I part-owned and managed a resort in the tropics here.  I retired a few years ago, live in north Queensland and get back to the UK every now and then (but only in summer!).

Ops 9/4/06: I worked for Sol Tenco (and Sol Café) from late 1970s to the mid 80s. Worked as a packaging technologist – reported to Chris Pomeroy/David Moulder – and alongside Chris Stemman, Ain Khan, Harry Ovington, Ken Jones, Henry (the Pole whose name I never could spell) the warehouseman, and numerous others that I was proud to call my colleagues back then. Left ST to join LT – then moved to Dairy Crest – then to LT (all of 8 days!!) – then onto Tesco where I spent 10 years – thereafter worked as a consultant for 4 years before being lured back to full time work (haha) by an ex Tesco colleague at a company called 3663.
